At the forefront of this film is the relationship between Achilles and Patroclus. Both are enlisted in Agamemnon’s army and fight against Troy. In literature they are described as cousins or great friends. In works of Plato, they are seen as lovers. For the first time in file, Plato’s interpretation is explored.
Described as erotic, Derek Jacobi narrates an exploration in the style of Ancient Greek theater. It’s rare to find any overt sexuality in the world of puppet animation; it’s even more rare for that sexuality to have a homoerotic aspect which is what Purves depicts.
